APPLES (MILA), 2020
Greece | HDD, Color, 91’ | Greek, English
Director: Christos Nikou
Cast: Aris Servetalis, Sofia Georgovassili, Anna Kalaitzidou

The Oscar nomination from Greece is an allegory on memory and identity loss. In this first movie by Christos Nikou, an unknown virus is causing sudden amnesia in people. One day, middle-aged Aris wakes up on the bus, and can’t remember who he is or why he was on that bus. Afterwards, he waits at the state clinic for someone familiar to recognize and claim him. Set in a period when dates and memories are erased, Apples tells an equally eerie and touching pandemic story with its stylized cinematography and black humor.
