In The Unbearable Lightness Of Being adapted by Philip Kaufman from the Milan Kundera novel with the same name, Daniel Day Lewis portrays Thomas, a young surgeon who is also a womanizer. Despite his aversion to commitment, when Thomas goes on a trip out of town, he meets and falls in love with a photographer named Tereza, whom he marries soon after. Even so, Thomas can’t give up his old habits and continues with his affair with Sabina. Extremely annoyed with this situation, Tereza packs up and goes back home, and the playboy surgeon decides to go after his love. Set during the Russian invasion of Czechoslovakia during 1968, the production presents a poetic love triangle from the lens of master cinematographer Sven Nykvist, who has worked with Ingmar Bergman for several years.
