Ara is the second feature-length film written and directed by Ümit Ünal, and takes the viewers through a journey set in one location and taking place between 1998 and 2008. We watch the ups and downs of a couple torn between the changing conditions and culture of living in Turkey across a period of ten years. Ünal states that he “focuses on the troubles of his own generation” with Ara, where he chose to construct a narrative breaking time and juxtaposing them. The film depicts the couple’s relationship across the years, their lives of trying to be successful and not being able to produce anything in return as well as their in between-ness through realistic dialogues and a successful cast.
