October 9, 2014

Thursday, October 9, 19.00

One of the subjects explored in the “Repertoire” study situated at the entrance of the exhibition “Plurivocality” is Neyzen Tevfik and the culture of the “ney”, through works by Maide Arel, Cihat Burak, Mahmut Cüda, İbrahim Safi, and Fikret Mualla. The exhibition features works selected from the album “Hiç”in “Azab-ı Mukaddes”i(The "Sacred Pain" of "Nothing"), a compilation of pieces by Neyzen Tevfik, including the poem Geçer (It will pass) in the poet’s own voice.

Istanbul Modern presents an event centering on the works Neyzen Tevfik produced in various fields and which he built with sufistic love; the finest examples of his approach to “nothingness”, which he relied on in his quest for absolute freedom. Focusing on the skillful poet of satire Neyzen Tevfik’s personality and approach to life and his literature and music, the event will be carried out with the participation of Neyzen (ney player) Assoc. Prof. Süleyman Erguner, who will share with the audience his long-term studies on Neyzen Tevfik.

The event is free of charge and will be held in the “Repertoire” area at the entrance of the exhibition “Plurivocality”.
