“HARBOR” Exhibition Events

Istanbul Modern, Multipurpose Hall

Speakers: Burcu Aktaş, Turgut Yüksel

“HARBOR” focuses on ports and harbors as a theme in modern and contemporary art in Turkey. Within the scope of the exhibition, Yeni Deniz Mecmuası [New Maritime Magazine] meets with the audience for a talk on people who go fishing in the Port of Istanbul, the lines they cast, and the fish that take the bait.

The event starts with a speech about the publication by Burcu Aktaş, an editor for the magazine. This will be followed by a presentation titled “Fishing Lines Cast into the Sea from the Harbor” by artist Turgut Yüksel, a writer for the magazine. Yüksel discusses one of the most important elements of a city that is traversed by the sea: fishermen and their world, as well as fish whose names are not known because they are not sold on the stall or that have become extinct, and how line fishing is reflected in literature.

Published quarterly since 2016, Yeni Deniz Mecmuası focuses on all aspects of maritime culture.

The event is free of charge. The talk will be held in Turkish.
