HARBOR Exhibition Events

Istanbul Modern Cinema

xurban_collective brought together the “overseas” efforts of Güven İncirlioğlu and Hakan Topal. In the 2000s, the collective collaborated with experts from various fields, including artists and cultural producers to realize research-based art projects, installations, theoretical discussions, and publications both on the web and in exhibition spaces. Today, the two artists continue their work as independent scholars and artists, one in Izmir, the other in New York. Invited by Istanbul Modern, İncirlioğlu and Topal have reinterpreted past xurban_collective projects and re-arranged a selection of works for the exhibition “HARBOR” as a multipart installation.

The talk by İncirlioğlu and Topal concentrates on the research projects and artistic practices of xurban-collective, which often focused on Istanbul as a port city and its relationship with other port cities, global maritime trading networks, territorial waters, migration routes, and the related sociopolitical issues.

The event is free of charge. The talk will be held in Turkish.
