Mother & Child Art Activities

Mother & Child Art Activities

Aiming to enhance imagination and creativity by bringing communication among family members into a cultural space, Mother & Child Art Activities Project invites women who have limited access to art to participate in activities with their preschool or school-age children. In activities that share methods of spending quality time together through art, mothers and children explore the lives of artists and their works and are introduced to various fields of artistic practice, thus enhancing their imagination and materializing their thoughts through art.

The program aims to serve the needs of groups formed under the guidance of local governments, the parent-teacher associations of state-funded schools, non-governmental organizations, and charitable foundations and associations. The program is held in two stages consisting of museum tours and art workshops. Museum tours give participants the opportunity to interpret works of art. These are followed by the workshops “Shadow Pictures” and “Mask Workshop” for 4-6 year-olds, and “Shapes and Colors” and “My Istanbul” for 7-12 year-olds. The programs include art activities involving painting, space design, puppet design, and drama.

The program lasts 90 minutes.

Istanbul Modern’s Mother & Child Art Activities are free of charge. The program is offered through educational institutions and organizations supporting education.
