A Weekend with Nick Cave July 7–8, 2018

Istanbul Modern Cinema presents a film program about the Australian singer, songwriter, composer, screenwriter, poet and actor Nick Cave, who has just entered the 45th year in his music career. The program selection includes films about Nick Cave’s music, his writing or the singer himself, and will take place the weekend before his concert on July 10 at the KüçükÇiftlik Park as part of the 25th Istanbul Jazz Festival. Films included in the selection are: The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007) directed by Andrew Dominik, with a soundtrack co-composed by Cave and the other “bad seed” Warren Ellis, and where Cave makes a cameo; the musical documentary One More Time with Feeling (2016), also directed by Dominik following the death of Cave’s son Arthur, and focusing on the album Skeleton Tree recorded in Brighton by The Bad Seeds; and Lawless (2012), where Cave worked with Australian director John Hillcoat and wrote the screenplay and co-composed the soundtrack once again with Ellis. A mafia story about three brothers in the Wild West, Lawless had been nominated for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. As part of the program, a panel will be organized on Saturday, July 7 at 17.00 where people from the world of music and cinema will come together to speak about Cave’s music and his relationship with cinema.
