Istanbul Modern - China

The exhibition "Istanbul Modern – China", which was on view at Minsheng Art Museum, was a part of the series of collection exhibitions held since 2009 by Istanbul Modern in major cities of the world such as Berlin, Seoul, Rotterdam, and Bahrain. The exhibition featured a selection consisting of video works by Istanbul Modern’s collection of modern and contemporary art.

"Istanbul Modern – China" focused on topical themes of the contemporary world such as imagination, identity, the body and the socio-political discourses surrounding it, present-day political tensions, the interdisciplinary nature of visual culture, and the sanctifying of life. Gathering together works from different periods and times, the exhibition described Istanbul as a new continent at the center of contemporary art while pointing to the dynamics of transformation and change which have taken place in contemporary art in Turkey from the 1950s to the present day.

Istanbul Modern presented the "Transformation: A View on Chinese Contemporary Art" in 2012 within the scope of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Turkey in collaboration with the China International Exhibition Agency of China Arts, the Entertainment Group. Istanbul Modern presented the exhibition in Shanghai within the scope of the 2013 Turkish Cultural Year in China, supported by the Ministry of Culture of China, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, and the Embassy of China in Turkey.
