İstanbul Modern-Berlin

To mark the occasion of the 20th year of the Berlin-Istanbul town twinning, Istanbul Modern was invited to take part in the "Next Wave" project jointly organized by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and the Berlin State Senate. Istanbul Modern displayed its collection at Martin-Gropius-Bau, one of Berlin’s most important exhibition halls.

The exhibition, a collaboration between the Berlin Academy of the Arts and Istanbul Modern, was the first time that such a comprehensive selection of a Turkish museum’s collection of modern and contemporary art visited a European capital.

A total of 66 works by 59 different artists ranging from İbrahim Çallı to Sarkis, from Zeki Kocamemi to Hale Tenger, and from Nejad Melih Devrim to Gülsün Karamustafa gave the viewers a glimpse of the rich landscape that is modern and contemporary Turkish art.
