Saturday, April 9, 2016, 14.00-16.00 EK BİÇ YE İÇ, İnönü Caddesi No:9A, Taksim

EK BİÇ YE İÇ, a social initiative on urban farming, healthy living, and sustainable living comes together on two different occasions with artist Camila Rocha, featured in the exhibition “TILL IT’S GONE”.

On April 7, the EK BİÇ YE İÇ team will be visiting Istanbul Modern to discuss the politics of production and consumption of natural resources in the “Sefatoryum” area which Rocha created specifically for the exhibition “TILL IT’S GONE”. And on April 9, EK BİÇ YE İÇ will be hosting visitors in their space in Taksim to share how they put into practice their suggestions in the field of permaculture. Also, Rocha will talk about the conceptual framework of “Sefatoryum” and share her experiences during the production process of the work.

“Situated on the lower ground floor of a building at the edge of Taksim Square, the de facto center of Istanbul, EK BİÇ YE İÇ is an urban farm where we plant and harvest our own produce, a restaurant where we eat and drink locally-sourced products, and a social platform where we share what we learn through our activities. As we have started questioning how and where the food we eat is produced, we are discovering how our lives would become more balanced and enjoyable if we were to redirect part of our energy away from consuming and towards producing. EK BİÇ YE İÇ has emerged from this awareness. Through our own practice, we aim to highlight concepts such as reduction of our carbon footprint, re-/upcycling, and ecological design, which are critical for creating local and sustainable ecosystems of production. We invite all who are interested in these concepts to visit us at EK BİÇ YE İÇ, and talk about what we can do together.”
