On Saturday, April 26, design lovers who visit the Istanbul Modern Store met and chatted with designer Meliha Babalık. Active for 14 years, Meliha Babalık established her own brand, Kumm Design, in 2010. Babalık likes using harsh, bitter colors in her creations, which feature minimal as well as symbolic and dream like figurative elements. Building a bridge between art and nature’s creativity, Babalık’s works include diverse objects such as handmade notebooks, and handmade cheese plates and wine glasses made from recycled glass.

Having learned casting and silversmithing techniques from various masters, Meral Saatçi has been designing jewelry for 14 years. Saatçi, who began her design career with semiprecious stones, especially uses silver as well as gold, copper, and natural materials in her designs. Meral Saatçi’s minimalist yet assertive jewelry are targeted toward modern women who seek design in the details.
