Featured in Istanbul Modern’s exhibitions Past and Future and Neighbours, CANAN is an artist who, through women’s stories, divulges the harsh effects of the state, society, religion, mores, family, and similar control mechanisms on the individual. In her new video “Delusion,” created for the exhibition Neighbours, she conveys the inner journey of a young woman who lives in Istanbul, told in a tale-like manner in her own voice, and responds to the oral tradition of Turkey and the surrounding region with a love story that ends in madness.

The conversation focusing on CANAN’s recent work is organised in conjunction with the launch of CANAN’s new artist book, published by Art-ist Publications. The book’s editor, Süreyyya Evren, and Istanbul Modern curator Çelenk Bafra join the conversation held on the One Square Meter stage, set especially for Neighbours in Istanbul Modern’s temporary exhibition hall.

The event is free of charge.
